Guam Visitors Bureau (GVB) along with the Mongmong-Toto-Maite Mayor’s Office is pleased to announce the unveiling of “We Are Mongmong-Toto-Maite” mural will be held Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at 10 a.m.

 

The ceremony, which will be held on the corner of Tenbat Street on Route 7A, will mark the ninth mural to be unveiled as part of the “We Are Guam” program.

 

“These village mural projects are moving along quickly,” said GVB Acting General Manager Ernie A. Galito. “But even with nine under our belt, it still amazes us how they continue to bring people together. The artwork at Mongmong-Toto-Maite is a welcome addition to the ‘We Are Guam’ program.”

 

The Mongmong-Toto-Maite mural artist, John Leon Guerrero, incorporated a “swamp” theme into the artwork.

 

“It’s a unique piece that depicts the way of life our village experienced during historical times,” said Mayor Andrew “Andy” C. Villagomez. “We believe it will help educate all the onlookers about the place we call home.”

 

“The detail in this artwork makes the drawings look very realistic,” said Leilani Ramos, a community volunteer. “The dominance of green in the mural depicts the flora and fauna that make up the Mongmong-Toto-Maite valley.”

 

All paints and supplies have been contributed by Benson Hardware and the Mikel I.V. Tan Foundation.

 

Organizations and individuals are encouraged to contact their mayor to volunteer for their village mural project.
